Called the “Young, Sexy, Sassy Version of Wavy Gravy,” “Ani diFranco on Pep Pills,” and “The Doyenne of Fun Rock,” Liz O’s comedic persona and penchant for themed theatricality have earned her a fun-loving fanbase across the U.S.A. Her songs are a purely original blend of music; colorful stories rooted in rhythmic blues, with a punk, feisty delivery. She has headlined at countless venues around the Bay Area, including Cafe du Nord, Brick and Mortar Music Hall, and the New Parish.
Never one to settle for anything less than a raucous spectacle, her monthly showcase at 50 Mason Social House produced such variety-show style events as “The Apocalyptic Pirate Party,” “The Apocalyptic Pony Party,” “The Drunken Sailor Party,” “Prom,” “Rockocalypse,” “Popocalypse,” and more.
Teaming up with a band of local, colorful characters, Liz O released her debut album, “Golden Gate 8,” on iTunes on January 24th, 2013. Her cd release party was an epic three hour party bus ride rollicking in a sea of glitter around the streets of San Francisco. It involved line dancing, gigantic rabbits, pinatas, ponies, Britney Spears, fire, and even a visit from the police! But thanks to admirable professionalism on the part of the party bus company, no one was thrown in jail.
Burnt out, she retreated to New England to hibernate on an island and write new music, releasing the acoustic album “The Other Side” in March 2016. The 13 song album includes piano, guitar, and organ, and blends rock and folk together to take listeners on a journey through the female psyche. Who doesn’t love the female psyche?!
Next, she decided to pursue a long time goal of stand up comedy, and has been finding success despite New England being a historically dicey place for spirited women. Her comedy explores this, invoking the Salem witch trials and Hillary Clinton far more than anyone else is comfortable with. Her material has caused more than one straight white man to label her “a nightmare,” which she considers a strong indication that she is on the right path.
Liz O’s current plan is to get out of New England before they bring back burning witches again, and take her one woman rolling carnival on the road, spreading wrath and whimsy across America whether America likes it or not. She is also working on her third album, “Underworld,” which is all about - you guessed it - witches. And all of the fun that can be had in the darkness.
Stay tuned!
